My first good hi-fi receiver bought new in 1974 and paired with efficient Cerwin-Vega 12" two-way speakers made for a great core to a great system. Plenty of power for average size rooms but lacks the head room that significantly more power would offer. I got to use an SX-737 a roommate had around that time as well and aside from the extra power the SX-525 sounded just as good. This series had a much higher damping factor (40!) than even 30-40 watt Pioneers that came later which gave them very solid, tight control of the woofer for killer bass. Still kicking myself for not keeping it when upgrading to separates in 1977 (also Pioneer). The guy I sold it to still has it and it is still working with only one cleaning in that time. That's dependable electronics. Has enough features and inputs to handle your tape decks and CD players as well. It sure rocked the dorm room!Read full review
