The Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter is an easy way to display your iPhone or iPad (with lightning connector) on a larger display. I have tested it out with large TVs and smaller DVI monitors with an HDMI adapter, and it works reliably. There are some caveats and limitations though. You don't have much control over the zoom or aspect ratio of the display. You pretty much get whatever's showing on your iPhone or iPad screen scaled to fit in the display with black bars on the top and bottom or sides. Also, some protected video content will not play through the adapter. For example, I tried the Xfinity Stream app and it would not play any channels through the adapter. On the plus side, the adapter includes a lightning jack so you can power and/or charge your phone or iPad while using the AV adapter.Read full review

While these adapters are fine they require app developers to enable them. For example, when streaming HBO Max on my iPhone once streaming begins there are no controls available to Pause or Play, Jump Back, Jump Forward, or to Scrub through the timeline. With some apps Play may just stop randomly. Others like YouTube seem to work fine. Playback of your own content (photos, videos) may work better than some apps but I haven't spent much time with that. For the most part, whatever you see on the screen of your phone will be mirrored on your TV included audio. Make sure your iPhone/iPad, version of iOS, AND TV are compatible. This adapter will allow me to use more of my main cellular data allotment and less of my Hotspot data so its a winner for me.

another frustrating thing about APPLE. the only way to send the video from your ipad to a tv is using a proprietary apple cord that retails for $40. i bought one to put my ipad onto my 42inch tv at my cottage, it works fine, the only problem is that it shrinks the screen size down and doesnt even come close to filling up the 42 inch screen. i would recommend just upgrading your tv to a model that can cast you ipad directly to it. that works much better. unfortunately this is another example of apple making it harder for you to put your ipad onto a tv because they obviously dont want you to do that, they want you to buy their streaming devices. I tried buying a generic video out but due to copyright restrictions it would not allow for any streaming devices to show the video. what a joke. Read full review

I bought this after using one my son in law has. His is an off brand and worked well enough though there was a bit of a hesitation every few seconds. I decided to get the Apple product as I had heard good things about it. Once received I hooked it up, picture quality is amazing! No stutter or hesitation. Great product, great price. I highly recommend it.
