This is our 3rd Sonos Play One and this is part of our integrated system that has three Play Ones, a Play 3 and a Play 5 with a Sonos Media hub pipping music through my home audio system. The Play one is well designed with high quality plastic and metal mesh grill. The speaker itself can be mounted on the wall or on a speaker stand. You can also elevate your speaker with a desktop stand if you choose so as placement option is limitless as long as you have an AC outlet near by. Audio quality for such a small mono 2-way speaker is surprisingly full. The highs and mid are crystal clear and the bass even thumps against a wall placement. As small as this little speaker measures the amount of high quality audio shines through with flying color. Using the TruPlay feature you can set up your speaker system that matches the acoustics of your room. While this usually gets you the best sound quality, increase both the treble and bass settings will yield to ultimately better sound with Loudness turned on which is by default. The speaker is not without faults but then again I am being very nick picky here. At higher volume the DSP will decrease bass response and sometimes this can lead to an undesired effect and cause some harshness to the sound. But this happens when you either turn the volume pass 80% or have the bass EQ level all the way up. The Play One is suitable for an office, bedroom and even a bathroom. For more volume and bass you should step up to either a Play 3 (no longer available) or a Play 5. The play 5 will play loud, loud enough for a large pool party!Read full review

I wanted wireless speakers for my existing audio system. However, my new Sony amplifier did not have RCA output jacks to connect to the Sonos Connect box. Looks like this technology is more suited to streaming, connectivity to bluetooth devices, smart phones etc. The lack of flexibility in the Sonos Connect to accept audio feed from existing audio amplifiers suggests to me that such use is not their area of emphasis. I wanted to feed the wireless system from my home entertainment system. I wanted to use wireless speakers to listen to TV audio. I abandoned the Sonos system rather than purchase another audio system receiver with audio output features to the Sonos Connect. Hopefully, we'll see continued evolution of this technology to interface with more than our smart phones.

The system is easy to set up, however with all things related to the computer there are unforeseen difficulties. Luckily the Sonos Tech support is outstanding, the best tech support I have ever encountered and they can solve all problems. We have 2 Play 1's in our living room and 2 in our bedroom, each acting as a left and right speaker. The sound is out of this world and some evenings we love it so much we never turn on the TV but just play lots of music. Ours uses our home wifi network but we could hook another Sonos device to the router and create a separate Sonos network. May do that some day. Anyhow, we feel this change to a Sonos system in our home has been a great sound upgrade, plus it is very easy to use once you've hooked it up.

I have waited years to purchase these Sono's, I have a Sub, 2- Series 3, 2- Series 5, and few series 1, A lot of the time Alexa for me, just goes dead after using Sono's , Truly have not found out why yet, The Support is quite poor, You just have to read reviews & Blogs. Every time that you turn around Sono's is adding something new, I see were there is a Sono Amp. yet I ponder why, when the music can be played.I wish is for a CONTROL to Control, not Alexa or app One of the best sounding speakers I've heard for the size. Audio is clean and doesn't distort at high volume. However, I've had issues staying connected to it and the fact that it has to have a 2.4 GHz b/g network to run on is annoying for people who have there 5 and 2.4 networks on separate SSIDs. Also, why couldn't they have given this thing an audio line in? The speaker becomes completely useless if internet goes out or you don't have access to a wireless network and are streaming over your phone's data. This would be a 5 star device for me if it had a line in and the wifi connection was solid, because of how good it sounds.Read full review

I love my Sonos play:1, it's powerful for such a little speaker. With its ever expanding collection of music services you can listen to just about everything! I use mine every day, especially the alarm function to catch my favorite morning shows. I can play music, comedy, podcasts, more music, and best of all, music! It's worth getting if you want something simple and just plays audio but you really don't want the crap that comes with an amazon echo (this kills the echo btw). The app for the speaker is extremely simple to use and you can install it on your phone AND computer. I've always wanted a radio but I live in an area where reception is crappy, so I'm excited that I have a smart speaker that can get my radio stations AND my favorite radio stations I can't get in my area (like WMMR in philly because I live in WA). I don't need a podcast downloader anymore because tune-in has it all! In conclusion, get this because it's way worth the money.Read full review

If you get a chance, download and watch The President's Analyst, a vintage film with a great scene, set in East Coast suburbia featuring "total sound". That scene inspired us to build a speakers into our home 20+ years ago. Walk into the house, turn on the stereo ..."total sound". While that was at least a laudable goal, even some of best speakers that we installed decades back in response to the concept were mismatched, omni-directional, and in retrospect, quite flat sounding. Flash forward those same decades and there is simply a revolutionary concept, "Sonos", designed so that one couple-hundred-dollar, table-top wireless speaker, about the size of a coffee can, will fill a room with omni-directional, full bodied, base-balanced, "total sound". We achieved "total sound" from our last effort, but are now bearing the construction cost of ripping out (and patching the walls to remove) "old technology" in favor of a handful of new tabletop Sonos Play 1 speakers. We are finding it well worth the cost to do so. Buy a Sonos Play 1 speaker. It won't be your last. The cost is quite reasonable, until you budget for the cost or removing ancient technology. Even then, it's worth the price. Often, bigger is better, but that's not necessarily true with Sonos products.. The company offers its PLAY 1 ,3, 5 and soundbar series. We've now tried most and are perfectly happy with the Sonos PLAY 1. Try one before you get carried away with anything else en route to "total sound".Read full review

I purchased two of these for a small office/workout room. I'd tried a S5 in the same room, but due to the center focus of the "stereo" and the nature of the room, the music definitely needed some stereo spread. Setting up two Play 1s as a stereo pair sounds great in this little room - and they pack a nice punch. It's surprising the amount of volume you can get from these and still have crystal clear sound. I do find need to keep these turned a bit lower than my other Sonos products so that they appear to have the same volume as the rest of the rooms, but that's not a big deal.

Yes, it's a little expensive but this is an example of you getting what you pay for. I've had several Bluetooth speakers and wireless speakers but Sonos is on a level all by it self. Set up a network and add as many speakers as you like. All the family members have access to the music with the mobile app. I am floored by the sound quality. I have (3) Play 1s. I can't wait to purchase a Play 3 or 5 to add to the network. My entire house sounds like a concert hall. This is a must have if you love streaming music.

Put two together in your livingroom and set them up for stereo. Put another set in your bedroom. Simple clear directions in the app. Good online support. Radio stations Nationwide, Pandu, Spotify and others. Complete control from your phone.

We have six and love them. They are portable, so they can be moved around when needed. Also the ability to automatically "tune" these speakers to each room in order to maximize each room's acoustical characteristics is just brilliant. We pair them with a Playbase and subwoofer in the main living room and the sound fills the house.
