I'm one of those who much prefer the newer Poirot series to the older. I got mighty tired of inanities like Hastings' "Oh, well, you know..." or the idiotic way Japp gave a talk in one episode decrying private gumshoes in general but then lavisihing praise on Poirot (" 'e's the goods, 'e is!). The new series is more serious, more mature, less goofy. Poirot himself is less the popous ass and the main irritants, Japp and Hastings, are mercifully gone, enabling focus on Agatha Chrisie's marvelous imagination. Although Poirot still loses his temper unnecessarily at the denouements. BTW I consider 'Midsomer Murders' good competition for even the new Poirot series. Check it out, they're marvelous.
These later, full-length feature films of Agatha Christie mysteries, done by the impeccable David Suchet, are wonderful. As with the original series, so beautifully done by the A&E Network, these Masterpieces are done with the same keen attention to detail. Nothing from the lush era covering the 1930s art deco period was overlooked; costumes, sets, speech & sensibilities are all carefully adhered to with amazing care. It seems to me that the characters are given an even nastier quality, with plots and schemes even more cold and calculating than the earlier episodes; some with more contemporary twists for the modern-day viewer. Thoroughly enjoyed this & the 2002 series of Suchet's "Poirot."
Enjoy murder mysteries very much and particularly Agatha Christie's mysteries. David Suchet is the best Hercule Poirot I've seen. He really gets into character and he is so cute! The way he uses his his "little grey cells" is top notch. In the new mysteries however, I do miss his sidekick captain Hastings and his friend Inspector Japp. But the new stories are great! Thank you
Wonderful scenery, beautiful houses, wonderful clothes, great writing.

This was a high school graduation gift for my niece. There is no number one thing I like best, there are more like 3 or more number one things. You can find almost anything on eBay. If you are patient, you can get it at a great saving. When I have asked for help, the staff at eBay are always ready to assist. By the way, she loves it and watches it frequently. Thank you, Chandler972
Poirot is so good to watch. Entertaining for the hold family.

This is yet another wonderful collection of Poirot movies. As usual, it is very entertaining! And David Suchet is the perfect Poirot. I've seen the other version of "Death on the Nile" with Peter Ustinov in it, so I wasn't sure I'd enjoy this version of it, but I was not disappointed! And the other 3 movies in the collection are equally fantastic!
The two movies in this set that I popped into my player both had explicit sex scenes in them--The Hollow and Death on the Nile. Disappointed as I wanted to watch them with my just teen grandkids. Other than that, very good mysteries. Why is necessary....well, it isn't. I will try to get reviews on other Poirots that do not contain these scenes so I can add them to my collection.
Great buy!

The latest collection of Agatha Christie's Poirot cases are very well-made. No one can beat Christie's superb whodunits and no one can play the part of the egg-shaped detective better than David Suchet. I am just very thrilled to own these DVD's.
