About this product

Product Information

Henry's marriage to the rawboned Anne of Cleves is the story of an uneasy alliance between England and Germany, a political convenience. But while the annulment of that marriage amounts to a corresponding escape from political dilemmas, it also means the parting of two close friends.

  • They made these TV series so very well in those days.

Just good old fashioned historical drama of the kind they used to do so well in those days. No gimmicks, nothing OTT, no irritating music playing over speech or jazzy graphics or whatever it is they use these days on the box. You can learn a lot from watching this. Five stars fro me and look forward to watching it all again some day.

  • Highly Quality BBC Drama from the 70's

If you are into history, especially the Tudors then Henry VIII in my opinion is the worst of them all. A truly awful tyrant but he did keep us out of wars and did much to help modernise the country, making way for the industrial revolution 200 years later. Although dated it still holds its own with a fine script and good acting by all. Well worth watching.

The discs play OK but the background noise when playing two of the discs is a bit distracting.

  • A factually accurate drama in a true theatrical setting

Top actors of their day performing an epic story in the language used at that time in history. I bought this for the acting and the realism. It is not an action packed Hollywood firework display but a factually accurate drama in a true theatrical setting where talent outshines the tinsel

  • Excellent

An excellent series from the 1970s before history started to be rewritten to suit the pc brigade. Keith Michell played the king to perfection. The boxset arrived on time and was well wrapped. Thank you.

  • The six wives of Henry VIII

It was good but not the one I should have ordered, my mistake.

  • Classic BBC Drama of the 1970s

I saw the original series when it was repeated in the early-70s but had forgotten the detail and intrigue. Fascinating series of plays showing their age now in terms of set design and effects but the costumes are magnificent and the acting superb.

  • The six Wives o f Henry VIII

It's alright a bit slow and dated. The Tudors version is much better.
