I got this camera for my wife and it is absolutely perfect for her. I'm an avid photographer. I enjoy taking 'photographs'. My wife likes taking 'pictures'. There's a difference. I care about things like control over shutter speed and aperture size. She just wants to be able to turn on a camera, point it and shoot a picture, or a short (HD) video of the kids. Plus, it has to fit in her bag, 'look nice', and have a nice screen to view the pictures/video. The SD4000IS does all of this, with a few extra features, AND the 'pictures' and video actually come out pretty decent! How? It's simply a toned-down version of the Canon S90! It has the same F2.0 lens and CMOS sensor, but there is no control ring, no full manual option, and no RAW capture support. BUT it does come in red, black, or silver (a much more important option for my wife).Read full review
First, I must state that my old camera is about 4 years old, so my enthusiasm must be tempered by the fact that I have no other experience with modern cameras, ... BUT! This things low light capability is unreal. That's why I bought it in the first place, but it is so much better than I could have hoped for. I use It mostly for museums and "live" bands in bars, and it is superb with the flash switched off. in "good" light it is as good, or better than my old Canon, or even my (older yet) Konica 35mm, SLR. The video abilities are more than anyone can ever ask for for a "primarily" still camera, and are better than my 2 year old Sony Camcorder. If there are any "real" downsides to this camera (compared to other point and shoots), I have yet to find them, I couldn't be happier, particularly since I did about a months worth of (HEAVY) internet research prior to buying the SD4000IS, and (as far as the price of a camera goes), cost was not even a consideration. A truly great camera.Read full review
This is an impressive camera for the $ and the size. The auto setting takes sharp, high resolution photos under a wide variety of conditions, including macro shots and back-lit indoor situations, and the manual settings allow even more creativity. It performs better in low-light conditions, both indoors and outside, than any other camera I've ever used. It's a nice sleek design and fits easily into a pocket or purse, and the battery is quick to recharge and lasts and lasts. I am VERY pleased with this purchase!
This is the best point and shoot camera that I have ever owned. I'm into sony for the past years and got this sd4000 which has loaded features like a DSLR, very fast AF and most importantly, Excellent Crisp pictures and you can zoom while shooting videos. Its small that fits my andriod neoprene case. Buy this camera and you can never go wrong.
my new easily usable toy though i have 30d, pro1 and 980is. very compact and good in low light condition. IT will be better if having manual control.
