Brenna Yovanoff is an excellent writer. When she has an original idea (such as in her previous novel, THE SPACE BETWEEN), she's stellar. PAPER VALENTINE is still very good, and I suspect I didn't rate it excellent only because THE SPACE BETWEEN is such a hard act to follow. In PAPER VALENTINE, Hannah's best friend Lillian has died of anorexia and returned as a ghost that only Hannah can see and hear. A serial killer begins targeting young girls in Hannah's town. Hannah and Lillian must unravel the mystery before Hannah and her younger sister Ariel become victims. Aside from the ghost, this is a pretty conventional teen mystery/suspense novel, complete with Hannah's bad-boy love interest. Even though there are other books with similar plots, Yovanoff's literary skill elevates a familiar story.Read full review

This book was very interesting and beautifully written. I enjoyed every minute I spent reading it. The story kept me on the edge of my seat and I had a lot of trouble putting the book down.
