I am very happy with the purchase. I'm sure there are better lenses available, but for what I am willing to spend on a long lens like this, it meets my needs very well. The one complaint I have about it is that the adjustment for focal length is a little too loose and if aimed at too great an angle from horizontal, the lens may slide to a higher or lower focal length.

Cons: It’s heavy. The tripod mount is a bit on the skimpy side compared to modern 200 to 400s which have more of a handle with a tripod thread. It has no manual focus capability which is a big big deal if you’re shooting anything that actually moves. This means entirely missing shot after shot. If you shoot action photography, especially professionally, this is not the lens for you. Of course it’s not gonna be as fast in terms of focus but it’s pretty decent. In terms of ease of handling it can’t compare to a modern lens in terms of ease of use. The push pull mechanism on it is stiff regardless of what decade it was built-in. Pros: It’s cheap. It literally blows away the modern lens in price. You’ll spend about 150 bucks for this lens used, compared with $1600-$2000 for a used Sony. The image is sharp - good as any modern lens. Summary: ! If this were 2003 and you bought this at full retail price which would be like $800 (which is like $1500 in today’s money) or something you’d have been getting ripped off. But it’s 2018 and If you’re just a casual shooter this is a great buy! If you’re a professional that lives in these focal lens you’ll pay for it with missed shots and lost revenue. Just bite the bullet and buy a Sony 200-400mm and be done with it. Read full review

I have only had the lens for a couple of days but it is well built, easy to use and works well. I am using on a Nikon D70 digital body so it is the equivalent of a 300-600mm lens on a 35mm camera. It is well weighted for use with a monopod. First photos are well defined and I look forward to using it this summer
I'm trying out bird photography, and I wanted to get a lens that would allow me to get some experience before I commit to something far more expensive. I chose this lens because of its low price and generally favorable reviews. So far, I've been very happy with my purchase. I've used the lens to shoot birds in my yard and some nearby parks. The photos are very sharp during bright daylight, although there is definitely some chromatic aberration on high contrast subjects at a distance. The lens starts to struggle as the light falls off, but that's no surprise. On my Nikon D90, I've got some great, printable photos of ducks within 100 feet, and of songbirds within 15-20 feet. I definitely recommend this lens to amateurs and enthusiasts looking for an inexpensive, introductory telephoto option.Read full review
I bid on this lens to replace the exact same one that I have had for years. It was not working properly, paid someone to fix it, who took my money and did not fix it. Still waiting for my money back since it was guaranteed! Needless to say this was my first bid and I won! I shoot a lot of wildlife and this lens does a great job. I prefer to manually focus all the time and this lens certainly does it job. I rented a lens as I did not have this one in time for my last venture and I would much rather have used this one than the $2,000 one I had. I was very happy to get this one, albeit used, since it was substantially much less expensive than the one I bought years ago for over a $1,000. That one lasted for at least 12 years before the reason I had paid someone to repair it, so I was very glad to win it at the price I paid and hope this one performs as long.Read full review
