However, there was liquid all over the exterior of the product, it smelled like cleaning solution of some sort. The package was well sealed, and the exterior of the package was free of this mystery liquid. I believe this means the item was cleaned before packaging, and sealed up still wet. That's probably not a very good practice when shipping electronics.
