This lens is ideal for all purposes. Excellent sharpness in the center of the image to any opening and at all focal lengths. One of the best features is a striking contrast, found only in high-end lenses. It has no noticeable vignetting. Autofocus is acceptable for a kit lens. The construction is very good, with details like metal mounth, a zoom ring soft but precise. The weaknesses are the lack of sharpness at the edges, especially at full aperture and wide open. Anyway, this is less visible than some high-end lenses, including Canon L series. There is also a noticeable purple fringing, but only at the edges and high contrast. The autofocus is slow and very ineffective in low light, like any kit lens. The size of the lens is a bit out of proportion to a camera that is compact and addressed itself to those who use it as backup of a DSLR in my case. I have various adapters and could compare different brands manual lenses. For those who are not satisfied with the sharpness and quality kit lenses DSRLs and for this reason they are using M4/3, is an excellent response to not try to use different lenses with adapters. Olympus should work on an alternative of equal or better quality but much more compact as did Panasonic. But unlike the Panasonic, which was to hell with the price of the PZ, the new lens should be reasonably priced.Read full review
Since I have Panasonic GF1 with 20mm lens that couldnt zoom so I consider to buy 14-42mm to make camera more useful. I bought Olympus Zuiko ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 and tried it with my GF1 it is quite impressive combination, light and very good material, fast focus. But since m4/3 camera always double the focal length of the lens this lens is not really wider than 20mm as much as I expected.
Nice and Light, great pictures. Very easy to use. I could not be happier with this purchase. I would highly recommend this lens for anyone. Especially for those that travel. I also purchased the 17mm lens and the larger 40-150mm. I would also recommend these len's also.
It works well with a BlackMagic Pocket Camera. It is light weight and produces a sharp image. Has good manual focus and works with the BlackMagic auto focus as well as have a good zoom. Because of it size and lighting, I think it works better outside.
Surprisingly sharp on the wide end at wide apertures. A little less and interesting at small apertures. Super inexpensive and well worth the investment. Great to have for general photos.
