Synopsis
A #1 New York Times Bestseller and Winner of the Caldecott Medal about the remarkable true story of the bear who inspired Winnie-the-Pooh. In 1914, Harry Colebourn, a veterinarian on his way to tend horses in World War I, followed his heart and rescued a baby bear. He named her Winnie, after his hometown of Winnipeg, and he took the bear to war. Harry Colebourn's real-life great-granddaughter tells the true story of a remarkable friendship and an even more remarkable journey--from the fields of Canada to a convoy across the ocean to an army base in England... And finally to the London Zoo, where Winnie made another new friend: a real boy named Christopher Robin. Before Winnie-the-Pooh, there was a real bear named Winnie. And she was a girl, A #1 New York Times Bestseller and Winner of the Caldecott Medal about the remarkable true story of the bear who inspired Winnie-the-Pooh. Mistakenly ordered a paperback that I thought was a hardcover, not sellers fault; it was described properly on the listing. Seller still processed a refund the day I went to return the item and let me keep the item anyway. A+++ service. Book arrived quickly in great condition and for a great price. Thank you so much! Amazing seller!

One of the Great Caldecott Titles

Each year, a committee of the American Library Association chooses the best illustrated book for children published during the preceding year. Like any award of its kind, the choice is often greeted with less than total enthusiasm, but Finding Winnie is a recent selection that has won almost universal acclaim. Lindsay Mattick's text is the true story of her great-grandfather's adoption of a baby bear during World War I that became the inspiration for A.A. Milne's classic, Winnie-the-Pooh. Sophie Blackall's full color illustrations are remarkably lovely and evocative and capture the time and place perfectly. A Caldecott-winner that deserves all the praise it has received.

  • Wonderful Christmas present!

Lovely story and beautifully illustrated. You can feel Harry's dilemma in every decision he makes about Winnie's future. And the illustrations capture so much emotion you feel as though you are right there with Harry and Winnie. Only a true story such as this could be so captivating. A book to be enjoyed by all ages.
