I bought my first Olympus C-700 Ultra Zoom at full retail over four years go at about $400 USD. Some people like Fords. Some people prefer Chevys. I prefer this make and model over any other digital camera or cell phone camera I own regardless of the MegaPixel count. When I damaged mine after over five years of faithful service, I was very bummed out. I thank those who put theirs on eBay at such a ridiculous low price. I was so shocked a the low prices these are being offered at that I bought more than one. I am now prepared if I drop one. That is not likely if I remember to use the strap that will go over my neck and have this camera at belly button level ready to pick up and shoot. The strap is adjustable if you prefer just a wrist strap. I have a choice of ways to control my exposure shutter speed or F-stop setting like a real camera. The zoom choices offered exceeds my needs. The zoom is very easy to use. There are four choices of light sensitivity like film used to be. The flash works well. I send photos by email. While the camera provides three choices of quality, all file sizes work well for email purposes ... even when enlarged to full screen viewing. You can make miniature movies with it as well. The Olympus still makes the instruction book and original software available if you purchase your camera without it. http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_support_manuals.asp?id=1136 The only negative thing that I know about these camereasis they use a SmartMedia digital memory card (various sizes up to 128 MB). Those are not as easy to come by, but I have had no problem finding more of them recently on Ebay and Amazon (both new and used). Due to not being the current digital card of choice, these card are pricier than they used to be. You can still find USB card readers for them. There are power adapters and USB cables to hook right into this cameras, but I choose not to do so. I use rechargeable batteries rather than purchase new batteries. Either way the batteries last a more than reasonable time. IF I forgot something (Yes I know I missed several things that should go into this review), check this link out: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympusc700uzRead full review
I wanted an inexpensive digital zoom camera that I didn't have to worry about if I damaged it. I take pictures while fishing, on the beach, and sand raises cane on things. I wanted a camera that could fly around in the truck and I didn't worry about. Zoom was the key word. The Olympus offered this and the price was less than new items. The camera is great. I got the manual for it on line and it takes regular AA batteries. It has a card so I don't loose pics if bat goes dead. In fact I'm being careful with it because I like it and don't want to mess it up. Kind of defeats my purpose in a good way. Anyway a $700 item for about $30 , including shipping, can't beat it.
I loaned my C700 to a friend for a few weeks so she could document a family event. She liked it so much I bought her one. It is easy to use and takes pictures equal to some more expensive models.
