    Good quality manual focusing screen for my Pentax 645D!

    I bought this as an aftermarket manual focusing screen for my Pentax 645D. The originals are extremely hard to find and even if you can find one, the prices are quite high. It is very easy to install - it takes about five minutes. However, the screen is quite big and so you must be careful when removing and installing since it just barely fits through the lens mount throat. All I used were a pair of small tweezers to unhinge the "trap door" which houses the focusing screen. When locking the trap door back in, make sure you push reasonably hard because the first time I reinstalled the screen, it was out of alignment because I didn't fully lock it in place. The manual focusing is spot on. However, the focusing screen is quite dark and grainy compared to the original focusing screen. ...

    Anything but bright

    This is a well built product. Installation and operation was not a problem. However, it is anything but bright. I estimate that there is about a two stop brightness loss in the viewfinder. Being a fresnel design, the outer edges are MUCH darker than the center. The good news is that the split focus works great and the darkness in the viewfinder does not affect the metering of the system. This can be a useful tool, especially for the price but probably not for general shooting.
