I had so much fun with this game 10 years ago when I originally played it I decided to buy it again for my old Xbox since I don't have it anymore. I love shooters in this game play is very unique because it combines strategy with a shooter. What's most cool about the game is that not only are you controlling your own player but you can pick up recruits along the way and have up to 10 or 15 people following you and you can order them around

Tired of the current crop of alien-monster hybrid shooters I walked in to a local Electronic Boutique anxious for something fun. What I found on the bargain rack was Freedom Fighters. The price was right so I took it home. Three days later, New York back in the hands of Americans, I find myself wishing for more of these kind of classic, fun shooters. Growing up, I remember with fondness the greatest FPS of all time: Golden Eye for N64. Grab three friends and blast away. Fun - something lacking in some of the newer shooters. Freedom Fighters is in the same vien. You can play through the single player game in about 10 hours, so its not overly long. But the levels are so much fun that replaying them doesnt get old. Most levels are merely "go here-do that" missions. For instance, in one level you need to free some hostiges then blow a helipad. All the levels end when you fight through the hardest section of the map to raise the Star Spangled Banner from the roof. The multiplayer doesnt have many options (only three maps and one mode: Capture the Flag), but due to the strategy involved and unlimited lives it is more than the sum of its parts. A note to the family friendly croud: blood isnt visible, soldiers die and dissapear, and the violence is there but not a focal point. I'd say its safe for any young person. This isnt the greatest game in the world. The graphics are a little dated. The controls take a few levels to get used to them. But for the price you cant beat it.Read full review
It's the movie Red Dawn in New York. As you complete missions, you accumulate charisma. As you accumulate charisma you get to lead more and more rebels into battle against the soviets. Great Cold War alternative time line game. A must play

What I like about this game is that it is a "What If" type a game,And it is based on "What if America lost the Cold War with Russia" and if you thought Mario was a great battle plumber then think again. This normal Plumber turned Battle Soldier was making a normal house call and then was cought up in a brutal Russian take over of New York and then becomes a soldier to save his Brother and also people who wants to liberate the U.S.A. from the Russian take over..This plumber does not rely on mushrooms and stars,,Just plain wits and reflexes. He starts off with just a plain pipe wrench. As the game goes on you get Charisma that inspires others to join your cause to liberate America. You can get up to 12 to follow you,I beat the game when it first came out and I was not dissapointed.I know bad games when I see them and I know Great games,And this is a great game. I always like it when you end a level you beat you can hoist up a American Flag to show your glory. The challenge is great,If you like hard battle games that make you duck and hide by old cars and walls then this game is for you.Always keep plenty of Med Packs for mainly your soldiers who join you,if you control your allies right, you can keep them alive longer,Be careful though, you can send them all to attack head on and usually that makes a few dead allies which is normal in war games and that is what makes the game so real. The Xbox Version is better and faster. Above all you will not be dissapointed with this game if you are a battle war game player.Read full review

The russians have taken over NYC and I'm a plumber that becomes a "Freedom Fighter" This game's story line is so great and fun to play. I felt like I was protecting my homeland. It's very challenging and fun third person shooter. I wish this was a first person shooter or at least have that option. Watching the story unfold has kept my attention. This is a for sure buy it if you haven't done so yet.
Very great game that unfortunately not many people know about. Came out a few years ago for playstation 2 and xbox. Has a ton of replay value - hence my recent purchase of it again. The end of the game sets up for a sequal but it seems we may never see one :(
I loved this game when i had it on playstation 2 and am glad to have it for my xbox 360. Most will say this is a cheesy 3rd person shooter. I will disagree because it is fun enough and easy enough to get hours of enjoyment out of it. Plus Red Dawn was one of my favorite movies growing up.
