About this product

Product Information

Gamers drive their virtual alter egos toward greatness, as the second generation of "people simulation" gets a life on consoles. Though it features the same charming style and real-world challenges, the Xbox version of Sims 2 has been customized for the console. As in the console ports of the original Sims game, there is more of a focus on the player's main character, and less on the neighborhood interactions as a whole. Along this line, the most obvious difference between the computer and console versions of Sims 2 may be in the way players control their characters. Instead of a point-and-click strategy game-styled interface, players take direct control of their console characters, "driving" them around the game world with the analog stick (as in a third-person RPG).

Other differences also allow players to concentrate on their individual console characters. Unlike characters in the PC version of the title, Xbox sims do not age or have children. Players still have great control over their characters' looks and lifestyles however. By choosing different "grandparent DNA," players can alter the look of their sim until it's just right. A new "fashion designer" feature allows players to create their own custom outfits from a wide selection of mix-and-match components. The console version also uses the Sims 2 aspiration system, which allows players to define their character's "life goal," and makes it easy to find everyday activities that help work toward it.

Other features are exclusive to the console versions of the game, such as personal interactions that blur out the background to concentrate exclusively on the involved sims, and a food creation system that challenges the players' creativity as well as the characters'. Characters can collect objects found all around the game world, from fruit off a tree to fish in an aquarium, and combine these as they see fit into a new meal. Some custom meals may produce desirable effects in those who consume them, while others may just make characters sick, so discovering and perfecting recipes can be an ongoing, profitable mini-game for those who are willing to experiment.

  • Fun, but not as fun as the PC Version

I'm a Sims fanatic so I HAD to have Sims 2 for XBox so I could play. I'm kind of disappointed with it, being very familiar with the PC version. I think from my perspective, I prefer the PC version because of the differences, versus liking the gaming system version because of the "new features". I do like the cooking feature on the console versions, the ability to "create recipes" is a really cool feature and I like the direct control, still a little too slow moving for my taste and I don't like the fact that time won't go at "warp speed" while your character is gone if you have a roommate. It automatically puts you in control of the roommate when your character goes to work. Overall it's still good plain Sims fun, but as for me, I'll stick with my PC 90 percent of the time!

  • Best Sims Game for Console, with a fun multiplayer experience!

Yes, this is Xbox 360 compatible. Although it lacks some "Sims" essentials like babies and aging, it makes up for it through its unique features on console such as a story mode, great multiplayer, amazing soundtrack, and the "food creation" system. You can even grow and harvest your own vegetables, fruits, and fish to make empowering dishes from enhanced skills to romantic feelings. The story mode has a varitety of locations, quirky sims, and unique goals to progress through. The freeplay mode is a nice sandbox to play through but may get repetitive and boring, since there is only "one" main goal (make moolah and spend it to 'green' up your Sims' moods). It may be glitchy from time to time, but it is a fun multiplayer experience. I really missed that "The Sims 3" is the only Sims game for ...

  • The Sims 2 (Xbox) - rated TEEN.

I just found out about The Sims D.I.Y. movie making culture from YouTube (check out Bathroom Etiquette). I was instantly enthralled by the creativity and bought a copy from a fellow eBayer for a great price. Boy, was I in for a surprise. I don't consider showering, washing the dishes, looking for a job or taking a crap to be very fun. I certainly don't want to play a simulation of those tasks either. There are some good moments, but I would rather go outside the house and find a real flesh girlfriend. I ended up killing my first Sim due to hunger. There is a story mode and a free-play mode to do as you please. You can design your home, find a dream job and even get married. There are plenty of thing to do, (yawn) I just don't have the patience. I never did make my own movie. I was just too ...

  • Sims 2 Xbox (Backwards Compatible Xbox 360)

I originally had The Sims 2 and The Sims 2 "Pets" for my PC. However, after making the much appreciated switch to Macintosh from Apple, my games were no longer compatible. I'm not complaining the least bit because I'll never go back to PC. I decided to sell my two discs of Sims for the PC on EBay. I then purchased this game for Xbox 360, since it was an original Xbox game and just became backwards compatible. After a quick update through XBox Live, I was online and good to go. The game works just as expected, I get to enjoy a different user interface on my XBox 360 where I can actually control the Sim him/herself and walk around with the Sim. The graphics are actually quite descent to my surprise. The game was developed and released in 2005, so It's not too ...

  • Great game. It arrived in one piece. No damage.

It was my first time viewing Ebay and purchasing anything. It was easy to use. I didn't want to bid. I just purchased straight out because I could not find The Sims 2 at any retail or 2nd hand store in my area. My purchase arrived quickly. It took about 4 business days. It is a fun game to play. You can play 2 player also. It is fun to play your character through their daily lives, changing their clothes, house, furniture, job and even picking out the ingrediences for their recipes.
