Hailing from the United Kingdom's Isle of Man hardly a bastion for the blues Back Door Slam is fronted by 20-year-old singer, songwriter and guitar prodigy Davy Knowles, and has already begun to develop a following in the U.S. via high profile performances at SXSW in Austin and the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis. One of the season's most compelling debuts, Roll Away finds Back Door Slam displaying it's powers of what has been described as "Back To The Future Blues" on a diverse program of tough rockers, moving ballads and cleanly executed blues. Highlights include the guitar-driven opener 'Come Home', the dark Albert King-styled 'Heavy on My Mind', rock-funk groover 'Takes a Real Man', and the album's one cover song, the highly-charged 'Outside Woman Blues'. 'Too Good for Me' is a quiet, change-of-pace piece featuring mandolin and guitar; it is more folk than blues, more Bruce Springsteen than Stevie Ray Vaughan. 'Stay' is a powerful paean to a fallen comrade (the band s original rhythm guitarist, Brian Garvey, killed in an auto accident in 2004), while the title song, a reflective, largely acoustic track with Celtic overtones, deals with a young man's love of his safe, idyllic home and his need to break away for the uncertainties of the world beyond.

Great Young Band!
I first heard Davey Knowles & Back Door Slam while listening to Pandora and was blown away. When I discovered these were youngsters playing this type of blues infused rock, and the depth of the vocals, as well as top notch lyrics, I had to have it. I got Roll Away and Come Up For Air on EBay at rock bottom prices. Both albums are solid, with the exception of a couple of slow songs that really didn’t impress me. But most albums have that, so no big deal. Bottom line: These guys are good. There is Hope!
I heard one cut and was blown away. I had to hear more and I wasn't disappointed. Great songs that smoke. You can hear a little bit of every blues rock great without anything sounding derivative. This is exiting music. Well-crafted songs with great arrangements. Oh yes, I almost forgot to mention, they can REALLY play their instruments!! I hope to see them live soon and anticipate their next cd. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.I heard one cut and was blown away. I had to hear more and I wasn't disappointed. Great songs that smoke. Carrying the torch
This album draws from the masters such as Clapton, Henrix, Vaughn and King to carry on excellence in blues rock. Acoustic and electric songs share an energy level and talent that kept me wondering what they would do next. They are not trying to reinvent the wheel but have enough talent to earn their way among those who did. Excellent album. Nice to see young people continuing to draw from the bluesmen and tunes that spawned rock music. Back Door Slam is an amazing up & coming band.
I heard one song on a Sampler CD a year ago,and was very impressed..They are three young guys in their 20's,and play rockin Blues well beyond their years. Lead guitar player Davey Knowles is going to join the ranks of greats like SRV,Clapton,and Hendrix...Roll Away is beautiful mix of Electric and acoustic material,with lyrics and arrangement that are original,and well executed.. Great experience.
I bought this cd beause I saw them in show a couple of years ago and I could not find their album before now. I found the second album. I just like their sound, and I can't wait to see them again, even the lineup changed. I like their own songs a lot. Another guy to keep an eye on with a similar songwriting qualities is Scott McKeon.
