Best toaster for the money, i found

Actually looked into the various toasters available. Typically, the cheapest, two~slicers are also Proctor Silex's, but this one is the better model; of which, i *strongly* encourage you to stay away from the cheapest Proctor Silex models-- they are pure junk. A word on those 1st: Had the cheapest Proctor Silex model, brand new, and it failed from just under~average use in a matter of months. Replaced it with an identical. Same thing. This better Proctor Silex model, however, has some nice improvements: ~Bigger slots ~The lever lifts the toast up to be able to grab it ~The dial can cancel the toasting {other model you had to unplug it}. All for a cheap price. i say it's a good deal.

You get what you pay for

This toaster, being new, does toast evenly and the settings seam to work well. It also has wide slots so it will toast bagels too. However, there are things about this toaster that I don't care for. For one, to clean it, you must turn it upside down to open a trap door at the bottom. In the mean time, crumbs are falling out of the slots all over the counter. But wait! Now you have to turn it right side up so that the remainder of crumbs fall out from the bottom - all over the counter. The thing that really gets me is you can't stop it from toasting until the toasting cycle is complete, so if you make a mistake and have the setting too high or too low, you're stuck with it. Funny too that the bread doesn't fit all the way down in the slots. Would I recommend this product to ...

  • MY goof...their advertising

My goal was to find a white toaster, not available in the stores in our area. It arrived quickly to my delight...and was white. The first toast I made in the new toaster turned out well. My problem...a bagel does not fit into this toaster and toasts with a part sticking out like the picture of the bread slices. Then I found the left side "bakes" browner than the right side. Note the lever that one pushes down to start the baking process...this is as far as it goes down, but when you see your "item" is getting too brown, you can't push it up to stop the baking process. Also, one may have to push down on this level three or more times to get it to stick and begin toasting. Poor working machine. Recommend other buyers ask better questions before purchasing...I did get a white ...

  • Beware the design of this product.

I would not buy this product again. Instead of smooth heating elements, they are pronged. The prongs grab the bread and when the toasting is done, I have to use a chopstick (wood for safety) the run along the sides of the bread to release the toast from the prongs. Most often I end up with mangled toast that's hard to even butter. Some pieces come out too mangled to use. To be clear the new toaster I dumped to buy this one did the same thing. Prongs for holding the toast are a losing design in any toaster, but I expected better from Procter Silex !

  • Heats VERY unevenly :( i feel ripped off.. BIG TIME :(

But if you turn it all the way low then toast and keep an eye on it, as soon as you see it the bread turning colors, you can eject the bread and turn it to the other side and toast.. but you have to keep a close eye on it or your bread will be burnt on one side and not even hardly toasted on the other..
