About this product

Product Information

In Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise From the Ashes by Bandai, you are Lieutenant Rayer, code named Fang 1, commander of the White Dingo unit. After each mission brief, you must outfit yourself and your men with one of two Gundam Mobile Suits. The standard GM model comes with 60-mm head-mounted Vulcan guns and a beam saber, standard with your choice of either the 100-mm machine gun or rocket launcher. The second suit is the GM Cannon which carries the same standard equipment and choice of weapons with one addition, 240-mm shoulder-mounted cannon. Both suits can also carry either a large shield for maximum protection or a short shield, which has some offensive capabilities when ramming an enemy.

A space colony of the Earth Federation has declared itself a Duchy of Zeon. In doing so, it has declared a war of independence against Earth Federation. Skirmishes have broken out throughout space but the Federation forces have stood their ground. The new Zeon army soon discovers that they just don't have the power to stand against them. Then, in beginning of January in the year UC 0079, the Zeon forces launched a brilliant offensive called Operation British. A space colony the size of South America is dropped on Earth itself. The destination is Jabrow, the Federation's army stronghold in South America. It seemed like all hope was lost.

In a desperate counter-offensive, the Federation was able to destroy most of the space colony above Saudi Arabia. However, success had come at a cost. A very large part of the colony was still intact and had entered the Earth's atmosphere. Sidney, Australia never knew what hit them. Everyone and everything there was destroyed, creating Australia's first bay. With the initial mission failing, the Zeon forces now realized that a long, drawn out war was unavoidable. It was one they could not win without more resources. With this in mind, they quickly began a series of massive troop drops all over globe. With this blitzkrieg, they conquered 2/3 of the Earth, securing the much-needed resources for war and severely crippling Federation forces. Lastly, they laid claim to the crippled Australia.

Eleven months after the initial start of the war, the Federation finally amassed enough supplies and troops to launch a massive counter-offensive in Europe called Operation Odessa. Due to the savage success of this attack, the balance on Earth started to shift back toward the Federation. Massive counter-offensives began all over the planet, even in the devastated country of Australia.

Master Pierce Rayer has been put in command of an elite Gundam Mobile Suit unit called White Dingo. These three men, Lieutenant Rayer, Ensign Lee-Fai and Ensign Berger are the front line of the assault. To help them succeed, Anita Julianne, code named OASIS, acts as their eyes and ears during combat. They have been charged with being the guerrilla support for the three main units invading Australia. It is their job to patrol the combat zones and help prepare the way for total victory.

Once in combat, give the men and lady orders on what to do, how to do it and from how far away. They are depending on you to help them achieve the mission objectives, which range from simply clearing an area, to protecting a city from total destruction. Be sure to use them wisely, otherwise you may end up as scrap! Depending on your choices in combat and how well you succeed, different paths open up.

  • Fantastic game

The first time I played this game, I was put off by its super floaty controls, but all these years later I am having the time of my life. Great graphics for the time, utterly fantastic music and fun gameplay make this title one of the Dreamcast’s best.
