Vox Satchurator Review.
Very good pedal. It does pretty much as advertised. I may be stating the obvious to many, but in my opinion every pedal I've ever tried completely depends on the amp you're playing through. I tried this pedal through a mesa lonestar special first and really hated the satchurator's tone control sweep. It seemed very muddy and when I tried to make it brighter it got harsh and abrasive almost instantly. Borderline unusable and I thought I made a mistake buying it. Then I tried it through a peavey classic 30 and it sounded absolutely fantastic. It totally breathed new life into that amp. I'm very pleased with this pedal.Very good pedal. Great Pedal - Used at price point of 65.00 to 85.
I bought this because of the range of gain and switching capabilities. Pros: Sounds very natural (good for blues heavy rock - Satch Sound VH sound)pedal works great at loud volumes pushing a tube amp, more switch provides more harmonics and texture without adding too much noise, built very well, low noise level, works well with other pedals in the chain, responds to guitar volume well (cleans up nice when you roll back the guitar volume). Cons: does not sound good at low volumes. Tone gets very brittle and raspy past 11 oclock - almost unusable. Comparison: Sounds similar to Boss DS-1 - but out performs the DS-1 on dynamics and tone.I bought this because of the range of gain and switching capabilities. When More is Less . . .
I'm a little disappointed. I just got a Vox AC30 CC2 and ordered the Satch to go with it. The "more" button does nearly nothing. I can barely hear a difference with it on or off. So the "more" is actually "less". It's well built. Solid. Nice looking. I can dial in some good sounds. But I already have a full pedal board and can use that with the AC30. I just thought a VOX pedal would be awesome with a VOX amp. I haven't tried the Satch with my Fender rig or Marshall yet. But again, I bought it just for the VOX. Great classic rock sound
Buying a pedal without trying first is always a gamble. I've come to not trust many of the reviews because you can always find opposing views, but here's mine anyways. This pedal is very straightforward. Well built, simple to use and dial in and quiet. Quiet is important to me. With some compression in front of it and a noise gate after, you're all set for that classic rock punch. Cuts through and doesn't sound muddy at all. I give it a 4 out of 5. Only down side is the 'more' button has a negligible effect with the gain at 2 o'clock or higher.Buying a pedal without trying first is always a gamble. Great wide range of sound
I use a strat and a twin reverb. I am impressed with the wide range of distortion. When you back down the guitar volume it gets even better. You can adjust it down to a blues type distortion and up to a Santana like smooth distortion. The knobs are too easy to move they need to be stiffer. I was really impressed with the sound. I was thinking getting a second one so I could quickly change between the sounds. The tone control on the unit makes this easy to get the sound you want.I use a strat and a twin reverb.
