Apparently, several of the townspeople have become sick with cancer and other diseases. The more that Erin investigates, the more convinced she becomes of the guilt of Pacific Gas & Electric Company, an incredibly powerful corporation. She talks Ed into pursuing the case wholeheartedly, and it is her indomitable spirit that results in the largest settlement ever paid in a direct-action lawsuit in U.S. history ($333 million).
