Notes
Recorded with Steve Albini in glorious analog sound, this record expands this NYC band's fusion of gypsy punk and Slavic stomp with a touch of metal, dub-wise sound effects that pay tribute to classic sounds of Jamaica. This collective continue their cultural crusade to bridge gypsy music, rock and other brands of rebel music from flamenco to the perestroika punk that blossomed in Easter Europe in the mid-80s. "A Ukranian singer, Russian fiddler, Israeli guitar player, Californian drummer and a Russian accordionist walk into a bar. Teh if the Gogol Bordello, they tear the place to shreds - Rolling Stone"

  • one of a kind but still punk rock with a nice twist!

I found out that the first time you may hear this you may not be ready to take it in. It is a loud, rowdy, rockin' sound that still sounds very beautiful. That is a hard thing to do when you are in any genre of punk rock. These guys pull it off with flying colors. Buy this cd if you like Flogging Molly or any traditional sounding folk like the Pogues, or even if you are just a fan of political punk rock. Trust me it will rub off on you. One of the best bands I have heard since I first heard punk rock! A++++ Oh, get the newer album too, you will not be disappointed!

  • original sound

I first heard a song from this band on New Years & all of us loved dancing to it. Next day I went in search of the best album to buy of theirs (thinkin' I'd only buy one). I was told this was their best but it wasn't in stock at my favorite music store. I sampled three of their cds & bought two. When I finally got to buy this one I was already hooked on this band, but this does seem to be their style at it's most primal & energetic. The name of the cd describes the sound well. Their fan base seems to be as broad as their range of instrument usage. If you are a first time buyer you can't go wrong with this cd.

  • Good

Had some wear but plays great. Good deal, will definitely be back.

  • great album

It's a great album, I already had a burned copy but it was missing the final 2 tracks and I knew I'd want those extra songs. If you like Mr. Bungle or Primus, or any band you can immediately recognize the minute a song starts, then you'll love Gogol Bordello, and Underdog World Strike is the best introduction for anyone interested in exposure to a new band.

  • The Strangest Music You'll Ever Become Addicted To!!!

I saw these guys on the Henry Rollins show and was blown away by their energy, sound and general weirdness. So of course I had to have a CD. Love it, love it, love it!!! The neighbors hate it, hate it, hate it. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a totally different sound and who is very open minded about their tunes!!!! And remember, boys and girls, PLAY IT LOUD!!!!!!
