Great Short Shotgun Mic
This is a really good short shotgun mic! For a mic in this price range (under 40$US) it has great sound, and some cool features. First of all: the mounting system. The mount for this mic may look a little bulky, but it is worth it. The reason it is rather large is because it has dual shock mounts, one at each end. These really help isolate the mic from vibrations when handling the camera. On the bottom of the mount (although it doesn't show it) there are two possible locations for the hot shoe. The center location is the most common, but there is also another location near one end of the mount. You can flip the mic around to get a total of three possible hot shoe locations on the mount. Very flexible. The mic body is plastic. the three switches on the side do have a somewhat ... This is a really good short shotgun mic! For a mic in this price range (under 40$US) it has great sound, and some cool features. First of all: the mounting system. The mount for this mic may look a little bulky, but it is worth it. The battery compartment is easily accessible (uses a single, standard AA battery). Something I like is that it has a green LED to let you know the mic is turned on. The barrel of the mic itself is aluminium, and feels quite durable. The foam windscreen is useful inside or in very light breezes outside. Anything more than a light breeze will likely need other types of wind protection. Since this is a shotgun type mic, pickup from the sides drops off dramatically. I was able to use this mic in a car on the highway with very little car noise, yet clear speech (with the mic pointed at me). Sound quality is fantastic, given the price range. Be aware that this is not a stereo mic. It is intended for a narrow pickup pattern, and it dies a decent job at rejecting side/background noises. If you are looking for a mic to use for speaking/interview (within 5-7 feet of the front of the mic) then this could be the mid for you. If you are looking to capture ambient sounds and/or music in stereo, then this might not be what you are looking for. For those applications, I would recommend the SGC698 Stereo mic. I have a 698 as well as a 598. These mic's compliment each other beautifully. Would I recommend the Takstar SGC598 mic? Absolutely yes. It isn't "perfect", but in this price range, I don't think there is a better value out there. As I said above, pair this up with a Takstar SGC698, and you will be prepared to record almost anything.

Easy to use and Useful
Even being a lightweight product it works very well. I Just recommend another windshield if you intend to use it like me in a very windy environment. Nevertheless, its response to the ambience is very good and you can handle it with relative success in post. For the price you couldn't find many choices. For the first experience it's recommended!

The poor man's RODE
Very suprised at how good this microphone performed. I watched (and listened) to some comparison test online before purchasing this Takstar mic and the reviews didn't lie. If you're on a budget but need decent sound quality for your camera, don't let the price-tag turn you away. This is a pretty good mic.
