I assumed that it might have been a power issue, so I got this and switched it out. Same issue persisted. I say with a high amount of confidence that the product works perfectly, but this didn't solve my issue. It was definitely helpful to prove that the power wasn't the issue though.

Disc drive works and reads discs tho. During install it broke in several areas but hard to tell if it was damaged before or during shipping. Seller responded in a day and offered a refund but there aren't any others for sale online so I kept it and declined the refund. Luckily, it was delivered in relatively good condition. There looks to be a slight bend on the board and a dark spot on one of the corners. All the board components look to be intact regardless. Overall, a good value purchase from tinker-mods-com.
