As he becomes aware of evil and sinister forces at work in the institution, he also becomes aware that he suffers from acrophobia making him almost as nervous as the patients he treats. Each new and hilarious, high-rise experience leads to his eventual conquest over his fear of heights and the apprehension of the culprits behind the plot to destroy him and the asylum. Fast-paced comedy that is thoroughly entertaining. Silent Movie Mel Brooks plays a has-been contemporary director who gets to the head of a studio with what he thinks is a brilliant idea for a movie - to make it silent. This he feels will save the studio from being taken over by a conglomerate. Incredibly it does, but only after a barrage of silent gags and comic adventures. To Be Or Not To Be Mel Brooks proves he's truly a national treasure in his ingenious, smashingly funny remake of Ernst Lubitsch's classic 1942 classic film. Aptly described as "world-famous in Poland", stage star Fredrick Bronski (Brooks) performs highlights from Hamlet while his sultry actress wife (Anne Bancroft) cavorts backstage with dashing young aviator (Tim Matheson). But all that is interrupted when the Bronski Theatrical Troupe is enlisted to outwit the invading Nazis and save the Polish underground. Miraculously challenged by their dubious disguises, impersonations and one-of-a-kind musical numbers are an amorous S.S. Colonel and his rotten Polish collaborator (Jose Ferrer). From the opening Brooks/Bancroft rendition of "Sweet Georgia Brown" in Polish, To Be Or Not To Be is the ultimate comedy feast.
