The Intel Xeon X5677, also known by its codename Westmere-EP, is a server processor that was introduced to the public in February 2010. It was an instant hit due to its quad-core model, which resulted in unlimited multi-tasking possibilities. The Intel Xeon X5677 3.46 GHz quad-core processor is part of the 5000 series processors that operate at a stock clock speed of 3.46 GHz, which is 1.06 GHz faster than the average server processor. Where the processor‘s power is concerned, Intel tested the Xeon 5677 to deal with a maximum overclocked speed for up to 3.73 GHz. The cache size of the Xeon 5677 is 12 MB, which is known as the norm for caches with server processors, while the 288 GB of maximum memory support is also common among all CPU servers. Intel Xeon processors are part a wide ranging product line, designed to meet a variety of communication and storage requirements while maintaining energy efficiency.

    good budget gaming / productivity cpu

    got 2 of these for a dell precision t5500 workstation to replace my old xeon e5620's these cpus are about 50% faster in both clock speed and synthetic benchmarks. cinebench r15 multi thread score for both cpus is 1090 with puts it square inbetween the i7 4770k OC'ed and an i7 6700 stock. however do note that these processors run very hot as they are 130w parts so you will need to upgrade to a higher performance cooler or disable hyperthreading to keep temps below 81c under load.

    So Far So Good

    Have only had the CPUs installed for a week or two, but so far so good. No crashes, and operating temperatures are well within expected range. This upgrade represents and excellent value. For owners of original 2 x 4-cores at 2.4Ghz, this one's a no-brainer.

    Good Processor for general use and gaming.

    Replaced my X5590 with this. Not much faster, but 15-20 degrees cooler at idle (<40 degrees C). Do not use the thermal paste supplied. Buy a good quality paste (I'm using Arctic Cooling MX-4).

    Good way to speed up a Mac Pro

    I used it to speed up a dual CPU 2009 Mac Pro. This does require removal of the heat spreader so it's not a drop-in replacement but if you are prepared to de-lid it it works beautifully.

    Mac Pro 5.1 single cpu upgrade

    Mac Pro was originally a w3530 2.8ghz quad core, upgraded to this x5677 which is for dual cpu set ups but works fine in single as well. My Geekbench scores went from single core 2441 multi core 7491 to single core 3215 multi core 11275. So for $20 bucks and free shipping it would be stupid of me not to make this purchase.
