The Sega Master System's answer to 1942, Bomber Raid is a smoothly scrolling, finely detailed shooter that puts players at the helm of a fighter plane with unlimited firepower for use in blowing away an invading army of enemy planes, tanks and war ships. There is occasional slowdown when the screen is busy, the levels are short, and the first four levels (of five) are a little too easy (thanks in part to cluster bombs and unlimited continues). Luckily, the shooting action is still a blast, especially when the fighter is powered up with speed and a bomber squadron, which is a pair of wingmen that fly alongside your plane in one of four different formations. The triumphant music is also a nice touch. Bomber Raid is an important part of the Master System library, which isn't exactly overflowing with vertically scrolling shooters.
