Additional information
Includes liner notes by Guy Marc Hinant. Electronic Voice Phenomenon, or EVP, is the expression used to describe the voices and words you may perceive when listening intently between radio stations. A handful of scientists studied the phenomenon, but its paranormal-esque nature has kept it under extreme suspicion in the scientific community. The music community, on the other hand, has occasionally embedded recordings by Friedrich Jürgenson and Konstantin Raudive in their work (like William S. Burroughs, Carl Michael von Hausswolff, even the rock group the Smiths). Konstantin Raudive: The Voices of the Dead unearths recordings of Raudive previously released on the LP Breakthrough in 1971. Two tracks from it bookend this collection. In addition, scattered throughout the CD are short sound piece experiments in EVP recorded in the 1980s by Gerhard Stempnik. All this material is remixed and reinterpreted by a cast of electronica and avant-garde artists. Sub Rosa's mastermind Guy Marc Hinant points out that the project by no means accredits the scientific value of EVP, but instead explores questions of perception. So the album leaves the enigma intact, living off its eeriness. The resulting atmosphere compensates for the rather average bag of tracks. Pieces by Scanner, Calla (the very Pink Floyd-esque "Raudive Track"), and David Toop stand out as three widely different yet pertinent takes on the spirit of Raudive's experiments. Less impressive are the submissions by Lee Ranaldo and DJ Spooky. The penultimate track belongs to Brett Dean, a classical-leaning viola solo. Dean may have been the instigator of the project, but his piece cannot be fully appreciated so out of context. Worth of note for fans of Sebastian Meissmer: The cut by Random Inc. is titled "Bizz Circuits," which shortly became his new moniker (his Deluxe CD The Very Best Of came out almost simultaneously). ~ François Couture

Fantastic seller! My item took longer than normal to arrive but that's due to them sending me the wrong dvd. Not to worry though, I contacted them and they arranged for the correct dvd to be sent out. My item has now arrived and the dvd was in excellent condition (brand new as described) and it was very well packaged. I would also like to say that the value for money is excellent. I highly recommend this seller, thank you so much! The issue with the wrong dvd was quickly rectified .

Book arrived safely packaged in perfect order. Item as described, new. Thank you Rarewaves Outlet. Fascinating book, great addition to my collection. Great price. Would recommended this seller. No communication needed with seller, so don't know what to rate with regards to communication (please dont take lack of feedback on this matter as a negative). Thanks again.

This vinyl is really reasonably priced and I love that it is one of the more unusual colours. It arrived well packaged, undamaged and looks as described. It arrived late, due to Royal Mail's Festive rush, but was dispatched by the seller really quickly. When I contacted them to ask where it was, they replied really quickly with a helpful solution. Such good customer service, so strongly recommend. Really happy with my purchase.
