The simplicity of the device is mind blowing...
Once I realized that my macbook doesn't notify me when I've connected the Super Drive I was good to go. I expected my computer to recognize it as an external device, yet my macbook treated it as if it's always been connected. Which made me wonder if the device was even working or not. But after a few youtube videos and computer reboot everything works fine and I love my new SuperDrive! These SuperDrives are good quality products, without doubt, however you have to be aware that this drive will not work on all Macs. I bought one and it works well but be aware that this particular model requires a direct USB 3.0 port to supply enough power to the drive. it will not work with USB 1 or 2 and you will get an error message when you try to plug it in. In fact it will not even work with a USB 3.0 hub. It requires a dedicated USB 3.0 port on your computer. Read the specs before you buy and don't assume that it will work on your Mac.These SuperDrives are good quality products, without doubt, however you have to be aware that this drive will not work on all Macs. Great Simple Drive but with Drawbacks
Had this drive for a while and used with a number of Macs. For a while, it only worked with certain models; as the years went by, it appeared to work with all Mac models. It's a basic CD/DVD R/W drive; doesn't do anything special (lightscribe, etc.), doesn't do anything particularly fast (USB2), but it does what it does without a hiccup, I find. These days you can get CD/DVD/BD R/W drives on eBay for half to a third of what the Apple SuperDrive costs when new. You can even get knockoffs that do all this but look a hell of a lot like Apple's offering. I wouldn't recommend paying full price for the Apple one but it's still worth having if you can pick it up cheap here on eBay -- it's lightweight, takes up very little room, and works as advertised, and is a great in-backpack solution ... Noisy little fellow... works well!
I just used the drive a hour ago. I transferred a series of files very quickly. Seems to work very well. BUT IT IS QUITE NOISEY. Maybe it's just supposed to be, being an external vs. internal device. I dunno... I'm happy though. The seller delivered on time. I'd use them again. Thank you!!
