Book has a some pages with water damage and ink leaked from the hardcover. The damage is minimal, and isn’t covering any text. Other than that, it’s in good condition. Thanks!

  • Great Book

I bought the next in series of Diana Gabaldon's time travel line-up, Lord John and the Private Matter. I loved every line of every book up until now and really looked forward to reading this book. After careful watching of auctions on this book, I finally won it and was thrilled. It arrived safely and in great shape so I couldn't wait to curl up and read another installment of Jamie and Claire's story. You can imagine my surprise when I didn't find it quite came up to my expectations. Don't get me wrong, it was still good but not in my estimation, great. This will not stop me from continuing on and watching the auctions for the two other Lord John series, Brotherhood of the Blade and the Hand of Devils. I can feel successful auction win in my future.

  • Lord John And The Private Matter

Exciting adventure novel about the imminent marriage of Lord John's cousin Olivia to another lord, who, John discovers, has syphilis. Before he can figure out an appropriate way to handle this delicate matter, Lord John becomes involved in the investigation of the mysterious and grisly murder of a military colleague suspected of being a spy. Lord John has to prevent the marriage and solve the murder. His extensive investigations lead him into London brothels in order to find out the truth about the person who was spying for France. This is a compelling narrative that also offers a wealth of juicy details about 18th-century London, especially its homosexual underbelly. Lord John, who reminisces about his dead lover, Hector, and the "lean, hard body" of an old flame, learns that his cousin's ...

  • Lord John And The Private Matter by Diana Gabaldon

I bought this book, because I had read most of Ms. Gabaldon's other books and loved them. She is an excellent writer. Anyone who likes historical novels will truly enjoy her books. The main character in this book was introduced in The Outlander series. We get a more detailed look into his life, as well as some of the "somewhat secretive" parts of British life in the eighteenth century. It is a very good book, as are all of the books by this author. I would highly recommend it.

  • Lord John And The Private Matter by Diana Gabaldon

I am overjoyed to find an author that has such a command of the English language, such imagination and the ability to thoroughly think the subject through so that she can weave stories that are endearing and will stand the test of time as well as give an insight to the past...not even counting hold your interest and whet the appetite for more.

  • Lord John and the Private Matter by Diana Gabaldon

I LOVE reading Diana Gabaldon novels. They are, by the way, Historical Novels. Her historical research is keen and timed just right for her characters. Lord John is no exception. The Private Matter is the first take off from the Outlander Series which topped the charts in my feeling. Would like to have more from the Outlander Series. Lord John is a peculiar sort and is well suited for this new exploration in History. I recommend Lord John and any Outlander Series for an exciting read that will keep you on your toes and running back to the book every chance you get. Any fan of Gabaldon is a friend of mine. Gabaldon is GREAT!
