On October 3, 1993, Army Rangers and members of the elite Delta Force participated in a covert operation in Mogadishu, Somalia that went horribly wrong. Sent to abduct two lieutenants of a vicious Somali warlord, the soldiers found themselves surrounded by hostile militia. Two Black Hawk helicopters were shot down and many men lost their lives. Mark Bowden of the Philadelphia Inquirer told the story of the battle in his exhaustively researched, critically acclaimed book, BLACK HAWK DOWN, and filmmaker Ridley Scott (GLADIATOR) and screenwriter Ken Nolan have done an amazing job of bringing the dramatic story to the screen. Like Bowden's book, the film does not thoroughly examine the context of the conflict, but gives a detailed and intense blow-by-blow account of the fighting. The outstanding ensemble cast includes Josh Hartnett as a competent but nervous Ranger sergeant leading his first mission, Ewan McGregor as a "desk jockey" who excels when sent into combat, Eric Bana (THE INCREDIBLE HULK) as a cocky and enigmatic Delta, and Ron Eldard as a downed Black Hawk pilot. The violence of the film is brutal and nearly constant. Scott unflinchingly captures the chaos and mayhem of battle with tremendous visual finesse.

      One of the best movies I've ever seen!

      I'm not big on spoilers, so I'll be brief about story line(s). This movie is about the incident in Somalia that resulted in a bloody mess. Some may remember the video shown on the NEWS all over the world showing a dead American soldier being dragged through the streets.. this is the event in question. This movie is fairly intense and you will find yourself pulled into the movie quickly. I have always had a deep respect the the men and women that choose to protect our freedom.. this movie is a true to life story that made the respect even deeper. Bottom Line: Not for the young children, but everyone else should find this a truly engaging film well worth the investment of their time and money.

      GREAT MOVIE!!

      This movie about the events in Somalia are about as close as Hollywierd can get to telling a true story. This movie should be required viewing by all high school and college students to give them just a glimpse of what is really going on in the world. As a military veteran I know everyone doesn't agree with war, but everyone should see this and understand the sacrifice the men and women in uniform are making so you can sit at home and enjoy your freedom to speak your opinion. This movie stays as close to the book as Hollywood is able to. If you haven't read the book, READ IT! Then watch this movie.

      Black Hawk Down UMD movie for PSP

      I really enjoy movies that have good graphics and special effects as well as a good story line. When you watch a movie that has a story line that reflects an actual incident, it makes that movie that much better. This military based movie tops others mostly because of the true story facts that made the movie. Definately opens the eyes and puts a lot into perspective. Scale of 1 to 10....i give the movie a 9plus!

      Modern Classic

      This movie is one of a few modern day war movies that have stood the test of time. Anyone that is into action films; anyone that is into high drama or anyone that just likes good movies will love this film. I highly recommend it. It is the type of film you will watch manytimes so having it in the UMD format is great because it will go well with long car rides, vacations etc.
