I've used the others. This one provided the best results. While their information is good and interesting, You'll wade thru the first 5 chapters like pulling your boots thru muck. Then, using the adjustment screens is where the video really delivers and comes thru. While I liked the explanations and the demos, they talked far longer than necessary while you watched a still screen and told you not to use the explanation screen to do the adjustments. I didn't like that you had to leave the explanation screens to do the adjustments. For most of the screens they should let you adjust while they explained. Some of it was complicated enough that I had to go back to the explanation screens to make sure I was using the right adjustment or filter and then back to the adjustment screens. After all is said and done, I've got a great picture. This was the video that gave me best info how to very accurately adjust the sharpness, tint and saturation. There were lots of additional test patterns for convergence and tests for some things I had never known. I learned lots, even though I thought I had a good understanding before I started. It will also test the abilities of things you can't usually measure, like the adequacies of your high power supply and the drives of the different colors. It could save you from an unnecessary trip to the repair shop. After you've been thru it once, adjusting your second tv and your friend's tv, goes much faster and easier.Read full review
In earnest, it is hard to say whether or not this DVD has made a huge difference. I can say that the factory settings gave me headaches, but what I managed to set it to, with a blind-eye so to speak, was quite close to what the DVD's output was. I will say that my antiquated DVD player, an old, non-progressive Toshiba probably does factor into the equation. There is probably a ton of data lost, even with s-video factoring in. I would recommend this DVD for people who don't wish to spend the money on an "expert" and believe that what they're seeing and hearing is truly all that matters.
Good walkthrough of the standard image calibration and test patterns. This will certianly help you optimize your TV settings out of the box. Many other, more advanced test patterns (for audio and video) available, although the instructions for these are a bit less informative. The description section of the DVD is rather pedantic and simplistic for anyone familiar with the basic concepts of A/V systems. Also it is rather dated, with a only a passing reference to the now "standard" HD technologies.
This dvd do the job for why i bought it. Testing my video equipment .
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
The DVD does have lot's of basic setup info and is a bit dated but it works great for setting your TV up to get the best picture. It is simple to navigate and walk through. Get it and you won't be disaponted.
