About this product

Product Information

Ocean of Sound begins in 1889 at the Paris Exposition when Debussy first heard Javanese music performed. It goes on to comprehensively map a whole century of ambient music and its legacy. Sun Ra, Brian Eno, Lee Perry, Kate Bush, Kraftwerk, Aphex Twin, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Brian Wilson are interviewed in this extraordinary history of sound that travels from the rainforests of the Amazonas to virtual Las Vegas, from David Lynch s dream house, high in the Hollywood Hills to the megalopolis of Tokyo.

The book is in "reasonable" condition! not vg condition as described- front cover permanent fold over on arrival, packed this way ? pages are yellowing. Seller may be best to place a description "proper" of actual book being sold on the listing with photos so buyers know what they are receiving for the price paid.

  • A must have

I've been a David Toop fan for a while now. Back when this book and companion 2Cd set, first came out (95) it was The Bible to me. Not only did it elaborate on some of my favorite artists, it turned me on to a world of new artists and theories. It was to experimental music, what Greil Marcus' "lipstick traces" was to punk and DADA. Thorough and concise, it is a must have for anyone interested in different approaches to music and in new ways of listening to music. (track down the 2Cd if you can, it really goes great with the book)
