A documentary that has been well researched. Footage is mostly from the archives. The amount of art work, furniture and other items of value taken from the dispossed in the conquered contries was staggering. Nazi collections were stored in less than ideal environments which led to the loss of a great number of old master paintings. The US Army conducted recovery and return operations post war in their sector. Today items are still being returned to the families who were the victims of the Holocaust. Many interviews with the men who worked as art experts are included. The mind set of the Nazi "collectors" is also explored. Hitler's plans for him Memorial Museum in Austria are explained. I had seen part of this film on PBS and was eager to get my own copy.
Saw parts of this documentary on cable and was very interested by the topic. If you are interested in world war 2 or fine art, it is a very interesting documentary and very well done

I knew the Nazi's pillaged art from galleries, museums and families, but never knew to what extent. It made me so angry. Nor did I realize what heroic efforts and hard work ordinary citizens, the museum curators and Allies went through to protect and preserve what they could. It's truly amazing. My only wish is that some day ALL stolen property is returned to the rightful owners or heirs. Excellent, well-researched documentary; don't miss it!
I love stories, especially true ones. This is the story of how the great art of Europe was affected by the Nazis and then the liberation of Europe. It has a great deal of historical footage and I learned a lot. A wonderful film!
It's a story of the plunders of War.

Over the years I have read dozens of books about the Holocaust and thought I had a fairly complete knowledge--at least of the kinds of dispossessions and killings that had taken place. Not so!! The Nazis had a systematic plan for the looting of art on a grand scale. This film tells that story in a very satisfying way.
Excellent historically.

Having just visited Europe this past summer - including Berlin - it was interesting to see this DVD. I heard alot about what the Nazi's had did and stolen throughout the trip. It was painful to watch - and got me angry too - because they were just horrible! But, overall, an amazing learning experience.
I saw this about a month ago on PBS. It is an excellent presentation of how the Nazis plundered the art treasures of several European countries in WWII. A very interesting program. I highly recommend it.
I saw the rape of europa on PBS. Excellent! Informative and enlightening. I highly recommend it. My sister and I enjoyed so much we had to get cd.
