I've loved these guys since the first time I heard Sunshine Of Your Love on a swimming pool jukebox back in the late 60's. I was just a kid then, but I still haven't changed my mind about the mighty Cream! They really were brilliant musicians, combining Blues, Rock & Pop with an often Jazz perspective. There has really never been another band like The Cream, although they've had many disciples. I suppose the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Band Of Gypsys, and Mountain would be the closest musical entities. The early Grand Funk Railroad were heavily influenced by them, it would seem. Very clever, and mostly very original songs and performances. Their English sense of humor may strike some as a bit strange; but the juxtaposition of their English sensibility with the band's obvious devotion to the Blues, fascination with Jazz, and mastery of Hard Rock makes a stunning new style of music. Truly they were one of the pioneers and prime instigators of a more intellectual Hard Rock. The Cream aren't for everyone, but they are the cream of their genre. Highly Recommended.Read full review
Revisiting this album was an unexpected experience. I now appreciate Clapton's mastery of every note and Baker's lightening quick drumming. The chord transitions are complex; don't know if it's tonic to subtonic (not a musician or critic) but there's an eerie stirring that's unlike typical diminished horror genre. This album's a classic for the musicians and the music. While some music brings ya back - this goes forward.
Cream was an awesome band and were innovators in the development of hard rock and sort of the second stage where they took the music to new heights. They spurred the imaginations of countless future rock stars. This album is a must for those collectors who want to express the progression of hard rock to heavy metal music. Cream were an important step along the way.
