About this product
Product Information
The Republic of Ireland, which declared itself in 1949, allowed the Catholic Church to dominate its civil society and education system. Investment by American and European companies, and a welcoming tax regime, created the 'Celtic Tiger' of the 1990s. That brief burst of good fortune was destroyed by a corrupt political class which encouraged a wild property boom, leaving the country almost bankrupt. What Ireland needs now is a programme of real change. It needs to become a fully modern republic in fact as well as name. Politicians have been let get away with murder, and there is a fatalistic sense that nothing can change. The country needs to encourage participation in, and oversight and knowledge of politics, to make people feel that they have a right to challenge the old party machines and to make a difference. It is their country, after all.

- c***s (1755)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseThis item (book) was sent in a trackable large envelope but not one of my three emails asking for a tracking number was answered. Although the book is in good condition, it was also described as being 'signed by the author': it is not. It arrived today, the latest date suggested, nine days after purchase. I shall not be using this seller again.Carlton & Other Love Stories-Moshe Morris-PB 2013 1st-Jewish Family History (#286156226657)
- d***d (328)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseThanks for the book. Finally arrived today! Took a month from order, partly because seller was away till the 30th April, took another few days to post, then the good old Aussie post took 2 weeks more. Did email seller to let them know it still hadn't arrived and would leave feedback when it did. No response.Mortal Fear by Greg Iles (Paperback, 2014) Harper Collins Publishers Crime (#285892387133)
