I own several pairs of the previous model of the Hoka, the Bondi 7. I was interested to see what improvements were made to the Bondi 7. The Bondi 8 has several improvements. I have plantar fasciitis and neuralgia (nerve pain) in both feet. The Bondi 7 were getting more and more uncomfortable with my custom orthotic for plantar fasciitis. My podiatrist said to take out the orthotic and just wear the Bondi 7. Here are the previous issues with the Bondi 7. The good supportive arch made the orthotic cause the foot to roll out too much (supination) and the pressure is on the outside edge of the feet. This caused to much pain. Also, the tongue of the shoe was always sliding down and would not stayed centered. Where you slide your foot into the shoe, on the inside of the heel of the shoe, the fabric was starting to wear out prematurely. The edges around the Bondi 7 when scraped against something would scrape off the color around the base of the shoe and the white underneath would show through. Along comes the Bondi 8. The shoe is better in support with the wider sole. It feels even softer than the Bondi 7. The tongue is sewn in place on the inside edge on each shoe so it never slides. They seem to have a little more padding and a nice oomph for walking. I am not a runner, but walk 7 - 10 miles per week. I am very pleased with the Bondi 8 and am interested to see how they wear overtime. The sole is supposed to be more durable. Hopefully with the new design, the color won't get scratched off so easily. They have a wide base, which takes an initial period of getting used to, and when driving using the gas and brake pedals. Overall, I would recommend them, as the improvements have made the shoe feel better than previous models.
