With these standard medium rings, Leupold offers a high-quality optic mounting system that lets hunters get the best performance from their hunting rifles. They produce riflescopes and mounting systems that are designed to work together. Their models are available to fit almost any gun. One of their most popular systems is the Leupold steel standard (STD) mount with medium rings. Leupold’s STD mounting gear is available in either a 1-piece or 2-piece type. You should first attach the one or two base plate to your rifle. Then you can determine the appropriate rings for your scope and purchase them separately. The rings are made of machined steel and are matte black in color. The matte black finish complements your rifle. It also ensures that the assembly will not be reflective in the field. There are two considerations when choosing the right rings for your riflescope. You need the right tube size and the right height. The Leupold STD model 49901 matte finish rings are for a scope with a 1-inch tube. They are 0.77 inches high, which is the medium size. It is recommended that you use the lowest possible size. Therefore, the medium option is for larger scopes that would hit the barrel with a lower ring. The Leupold STD matte black rings come with four standard Torx screws, a driver, and complete instructions. Once you have the base plates attached to your rifle, the rings are easy to install. First, you need to separate the upper and lower halves of each ring. Next, take the bottom half of the front ring and insert it into the dovetail attachment on the base. The ring is pre-lubricated at the factory to make it easy to position properly. You can use either a Leupold ring wrench or a dowel to turn the ring into the “straight ahead” position. The bottom half of the back ring is seated between the two windage screws on the base and tightened. The next step is to rest your scope on the mounts and make sure all the parts are aligned. Then put the upper parts, or caps, of the front and back rings into place. Finally, you should screw them on lightly. At this point, you need to check your scope to see if the eye relief is right for you. If it is not, make any necessary adjustments. Then check to make sure the reticle is level. Once every part of the Leupold STD assembly is properly positioned, you can securely tighten the screws on the rings. The Leupold STD mounting system will keep your riflescope solidly in place. This way, you will always be able to take your best shot. It is designed to give you maximum access to the breech of your rifle while hunting. It is also compatible with either left-hand or right-hand actions. The medium one-inch rings fit any one-inch Leupold scope. The scope needs a minimum of 0.77 inches of clearance from the gun barrel.
