a must have data base at hand. film companies stopped print the data sheet with all the info needed to process the film at home. this book gives you that info plus the options for other chemical to expand your processing experience at home. if you want to save some money by trying to mixing up your own. it gives you the basic mix list and amounts needed, and what hardware you need to repeated it for good results to start with. one of the best thing this author did was to give a refence to other books. to help you gather the information you might need to fill the gap for a each skill you will want become better at. what is covered: ideals - history, safety, film processing, formulas, printing equipment, paper developers, toning, cameras, alternative process, concepts & lexicon and the computer & digital image. Hirsch & Valentino have provided a history line of the art of photgraphy. it is clear and well written book for the wet and dry side of the darkroom adventure. if you love the creative side of photography you will not want to be without this book. with their guide you will expand your personal skills and have a greater understanding to advance your personal style. i took a photography course at the university and got hooked on it. x numbers of years ago. it is so much better than the book i used back then. it is being use by college course photograhy. you will want to have at lease two copies. one for the darkroom and clean copy in your bookcase.Read full review
