Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best Selling in Fire Starters
This product is a magnesium block with a steel rod embedded in it, over which is drawn a saw-toothed flat steel rod to create the spark. In dry conditions, it will give a large spark that lit my dry tinder, eg: cotton wool, almost every time. The beauty of this piece of kit is that if there is no dry tinder to be had, you can spend a bit of time using the steel to scrape some of the magnesium off until you have a small amount of powder which burns quickly and fiercely and gives a good chance of getting a fire started. This is the perfect accompaniment for a wood burning camping stove, especially if you keep some tinder and kindling inside the stove ready for use. I would add one safety note that I didn't see in the instructions: If you get burning magnesium powder on your fingers, brush or wipe it off immediately. Do not under any circumstances put your finger under water. Did you ever do that science experiment at school where alkali metals burned like crazy when put in a trough of water? Yes, that! Magnesium just needs a bit of help to get started but burns the same way. Keep your magnesium in the block until you need it and you'll be fine.Read full review

A well made product that works quite well. The magnesium is, however, is harder to shave than some firestarter I have tried.a and tis makes it more awkward to produce a neat pile of ' chips'. Overall quite good value for money.
