Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best Selling in Passenger Cars
These are exceptionally well deigned, well made, well detailed, and are good runners. If you need shorter suburban cars or backwoods local cars, consider these. They are a great value. I purchased the combine version to see what I'd have to work with. I needed the combine for a backwoods mixed after a custom paint and decal job. Does it disassemble easily? Yes and no. There is no included drawing to guide disassembly so I started blind - that's the "and no". I discovered what I had was an exceptionally well engineered model with a box core. The under-body is held on by three screws down the center frame, two screws that hold on the Walther's-type swing coupler on one end and two screws at the corners on the other end. The difference is that there are steps only on one end of the combine. The stepwells snap out of slots in the core. Once the car bottom is off you have access to the core itself. The sides, ends, and roof snap off with careful deliberate prying and pushing snap-in tabs from the back side when you can. I got the repaint parts off without damaging anything, a miracle for ham-handed me. The only glue used holds in the window glass inserts, initially causing me concern. I found the glue was a sort of rubber cement that released the inserts from the sides with a slide in and a twist from an Xacto blade - no problem. The sides, ends and roof are now ready to be prepped, painted, decalled, and weathered. Once the exterior pieces have been removed the interior casting is easy to remove for detail painting and boarding of passengers. Now that I know what I have with these Hornby/Rivarossi cars, as soon as I finish typing this I'll be buying-now a trio of coaches for repaints to become a commuter train consist, and I have a mind to, after next paycheck, pick up a couple of straight baggage cars for head end car variety on my Mountaineer full fare train. Buy with confidence. You will not be disappointed.Read full review
