First, here's what it is; The "S80"series are hard rubber mouthpieces (mpc's). The letters, "S80 C" define the tip opening - C being the most closed. C* is 1/2 greater opening than "D", and so on. S80 C and C* are the most commonly found mpcs. They come with nearly all Selmer saxes. I have a "C" mpc and I bought for really small $$, a Selmer S80 "E" mpc. I'm using it with a Fibracell #2 reed and a Rovner MkIII ligature on a Selmer USA tenor. I get the sound I like - big, "semi-dark" and easy to blow. I'm not a pro but I tried a few other mpc's before I got the S80 E. For my purposes its perfect. If you're looking for a darker sound, try the S80 series.
