A good, forgotten film from the 50's about one of the greatest opera composers of all time who was unfortunately a very flawed, difficult person. Well acted and directed for the most part, with an excellent cast and well researched story line. Dated dialogue. Alan Badel is a convincing Wagner, as he ages 50+ years over the course of the film. Compared to the three-hour ordeal by Tony Palmer, starring Richard Burton, telling the same story, this film is the winner.
