My daughter and I have collected glassware for years. We have a small collection of mercury glass. To aid in identification of our glassware, I have acquired a small library of books. I did not have one for mercury glass. The explanation regarding silvered glass and mercury glass and English and American production was informative. The author created a readable history including sealing methods and included reproductions of ads and labels. The photographs of the individual pieces were of good quality. The descriptions were detailed. There was a lack of information on less decorated pieces, perhaps better described as commoner or perhaps more recent pieces, as only the extremely decorated items were illustrated.
I have had a piece of silvered mercury glass in my family for many years and I was curious about it. Reading this book helped me in many ways to understand the piece and its origens. The book has wonderful photos, explanations and historical facts. The author appears very approachable and has answered some of my personal questions about silvered mercury glass. The book has ignited in me a desire to learn more. There are no downfalls to purchasing this book, you get much more than you pay for.
