  • A classic that holds up

H.A.Rey's imagination was put to good use with this book. His reimaginings of the constellations defined the way I see the stars since I was in grade school in the 70s. His constellations use the same stars, but are connected in a way that makes far more sense than classical interpretations. The book isn't only a catalog of the pictures the stars make, but also a good primer on stars and space and astronomy in general. While it was simple enough to grasp when I was 8, the content isn't dumbed-down and Rey's writing is easy and palatable. If you love the stars, if someone in your home loves the stars, whether you know little or have a degree in astrophysics, there is plenty this book can give you.

  • The Stars by H.A. Rey

This book is without doubt my all time favorite astronomy book. As a Physics major in college, and now a high school Physics teacher I have read and used many "higher level" astronomy books, but for the sheer fun and enjoyment of stargazing nothing beats H.A. Rey's classic. I use the methods in this book when I teach stars to Scouts and to school age children, and after every sesion, I always have someone that they were able to pick out constellations for the first. I always recommend this book to participants at my sessions, and many of the people report back that they have purchased and are enjoying it.
