About this product

Product Information

Israel Armstrong is a passionate soul, lured to Ireland by the promise of an exciting new career. Alas, the job that awaits him is not quite what he had in mind. Still, Israel is not one to dwell on disappointment, as he prepares to drive a mobile library around a small, damp Irish town. After all, the scenery is lovely, the people are charming--but where are the books? The rolling library's 15,000 volumes have mysteriously gone missing, and it's up to Israel to discover who would steal them . . . and why. And perhaps, after that, he will tackle other bizarre and perplexing local mysteries--like, where does one go to find a proper cappuccino and a decent newspaper?

AOK. Item as described, reasonable condition (as described), excellent price, reasonable packing and shipping time, no problems. Thanks. (Sorry, I don't do star ratings when some are automatic, as it's unfair to buyers to have eBay pre-empt any of the scores. You should complain to eBay, as your star ratings would have been very high.) I can't rate the product until I read it. It's unfair for eBay to require a product rating in order to send feedback! The guys at eBay are heavily into control.

  • Charming and Funny Librarian from London to N. Ireland

What a charming mystery---no dead bodies here! Londoner loser Israel Armstrong takes a job offer in a small village in Northern Ireland to be the town librarian. When he arrives, after a long two-day journey over land and sea and of course being seasick, he finds the library is closed permanently and empty of all books. There are so many really funny characters along the way and frustrating setbacks for our Londoner. He can't wait to leave and go home to his 'girlfriend' who won't answer his phone calls and everyone talks so different than what he's used to but which makes the reader laugh because the town people don't take things seriously and he keeps getting hurt and on and on and it would make a great audio book. Gentle, funny and entertaining fast read, I read in one day.

  • The Case of the Missing Books

I like Mr. Sansom's writing very much. He has a sly sense of humor and his characters are so well presented that you can see them as well as know them.
