Thanks for the book. The book was almost as described. It was poorly packaged and it arrived with water damage. I think that was more on the delivery guys. It is still readable and only the cover and the first two pages have water damage. There was no sleeve as stated in the description.

  • Not Her Best**** HARDCOVER 2007

This is Ms. Hoffman's 19th novel and I felt it does not do justice to all the great books she has written before this. Arlyn, a young girl, thinks she knows her destiny and so vows to marry the next young man who walks down her street. This marriage to John sets off a downward spiral of sad events that will effect the next two generations to come. In the story, Arlyn dies young, leaving two small children to be raised by her husband who does not know how to show love. The story then focuses on Sam, Arlyn's youngest son, who because of lack of this love grows into a very disturbed teenager. I found this type of story to have been done to death.....unloved children, drugs, depression.....it was not the best kind of story for Ms. Hoffman to write because she usually writes wonderful books ...

  • A very quiet misunderstood man...

Grab the Kleenex because you are going to need it! Alice Hoffman once again has outdone herself. I cannot help but liken this story to some of her other novels:(The River King, and The Blue Diary). Not that they are the same, but for their haunting sadness and giving the reader a feeling of doom. Skylight Confessions starts with the love affair between Arlyn Singer and John Moody. From there the story ripples like a stone thrown in the water...of their children, the people that affect their lives, etc. Hoffman has lots of symbolism throughout and I think, a perfect book club discussion. For example: "Why do you think they live in a glass house"?? I walk away from this book with this in mind...Cherish every precious moment with your family and loved ones and never ever be afraid to show you ...

  • Mesmerizing

Hoffman is an excellent writer. She's able to write between different genres smoothly.
