I had to take the plastic cover off as it was annoying the Jackdaws and the Sparrows were a little shy. Now everything is using it. Good quality item, use some nail varnish/locktight if you have larger birds using it as they can spin the base off.

It's fine. Not very sturdy. Only suitable for small birds

I chose this for the adjustable height of the cover which does two things : it limits the size of bird that can feed from the tray and it can be lowered to keep feed dry e.g. overnight. I bought two so small birds can feed from one and bigger birds from the other. Neat, yes ?

    The best

Having bought many different types of feeder this one is by far the best one. The transparet cover keeps the food dry, the tray is of strong metal mesh allowing any rain entering the tray to drain away. The birds enter the tray from the side and thereby reduce any spillage attracting pidgeons. I thoroughly recommend this feeder

  • Top critical review

Brilliant m/w feeder but has a flaw!

If I'd made this review 2 days ago I'd have said it was a superb feeder but then something unexpected happened which revealed a fatal flaw with it. I started using it about 2 months ago and just when the influx of baby starlings began so numbers increased from 4 to 44+++ at times. They fought over the m/w endlessly so I was forever refilling it - not a problem. I have the feeder out the top window at the back of the house as I've nowhere in my town yard for it, so it's over the kitchen roof. Yesterday I discovered the base of the feeder on the roof (where I can't get to it) with the rest of it still hanging. Seemingly the weight of 4 starlings at a time fighting was too much for it. It wasn't out overnight or in the rain too often but the wire around the connection appears to have ...

  • good mealworm feeder

good solid meal base, hard plastic top. easy to put together. mini mealworms stay in side the tray, but the regulars sized ones where able to climb out.

  • Sound in principle

Recommended with a reservation. You have to educate the mealworms not to climb out of the basket! I decided to line sides with plastic, not a perfect solution but it leaves more food in basket for the birds to enjoy. Kit fits together quite easily and is easy to adjust and clean. So far any rain has been kept out successfully and the little birds are learning how to gain access.

  • Nice feeder but hook too shallow and needs re-designing as the feeder came off in the first high wind.

Feeder is quite well made but barrel fixture at top is rusting after one week. Also, hanging hook is more like a coat hanger and not up to the task. In the first high wind, the feeder came off the branch but luckily we'd foreseen this and rigged up a piece of string tied to the feeder and the branch as a back-up. Otherwise it would have come crashing down and broken the plastic lid. The feeder is a good idea but the hook needs re-designing.
