This book is a very objective, yet critical review of a very sensitive case, the murder of Marilyn Sheppard in Bay Village, Ohio. It goes through the first trial in 1954, the appeals, the retrial in 1966, and the civil lawsuit in 2000, going over what each side had, how the trials proceeded, the media circus atmosphere, and mistakes of both sides. It is excellently written, and the author James Neff notates all his facts and sources, having gathered more materials and interviews than perhaps anyone ever did in the entire case. The prosecution in 2000 even tried to subpoena his materials. For a complete source on this case, I would suggest no other resource. Having been born in the Cleveland area but at a much later time than the time of major bias, this book leaves nothing unturned, and helps keep the opinions out of the facts. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in true crime, the Sheppard case specifically, or the Cleveland area.Read full review
