Product Information

In 1965, there isn't much for military personnel serving in Vietnam to smile about--that is, until deejay Adrian Cronauer (Robin Williams) takes to the airwaves. In GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM, which is based on a true story, Cronauer is a nonconformist with a wicked sense of humor who is transferred from Crete to Saigon. Outrageous and over the top, Cronauer speaks in accents, creates characters, pokes fun at evertyone--including the President--and spins banned rock & roll tunes. While his antics amuse the masses, they also put him in hot water with his superior officers, particularly Lt. Steven Hauk (Bruno Kirby), who would prefer that the radio show be censored, sanitized, and completely noncontroversial. Cronauer takes his show outside the radio station when he starts to teach Vietnamese locals English in an effort to meet pretty, demure Trinh (Chintara Sukapatana) and befriends her brother, Tuan (Tung Thanh Tran), who becomes an unlikely comrade in uncertain times. Directed by Barry Levinson (DINER, AVALON), the film features a tour-de-force performance from Williams, who improvised much of the comedy used in the radio shows, leading to a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actor.

      Great movie.

      Set during the Vietnam war, Robin Williams arrives in country to host a radio show on Armed Forces Radio. His style as a DJ is a hit with the troops who listen to his show, including the General. Robin Williams is as entertaining as ever, in one of his best film roles. A very enjoyable movie & a reminder of this late actors talent.

      Wanted to watch again - cheaper than renting!

      After a recent trip to what was Saigon I wanted to watch this film again. Buying it was cheaper than renting so an obvious choice and I have already lent the disk to friends. The film is very funny at times but also has moments of real pathos. After seeing what the USA had done in Vietnam this brought back to me a lighter side without demeaning the real horror of the damage to the country & people. For me, all that ‘police action’ was not very long ago but it is very much a reality still in Saigon and the delta.

      Robin cheers up the Troops

      Although based on an actual person, Robin Wilkiams comedy style glows through. Masterful and talented performance by a comedy legend and the music of the period adds greater memory and pleasure to what was a difficult time for American troops in Vietnam
