This is the BEST version of Oliver Twist! Loved it!
Loved it! Nobody can ever improve on this 1968 version of Oliver! Possibly the best movie of all time. Mark Lester (age 9) is perfect as Oliver Twist (I didn't know it was possible for a boy to be that cute). Jack Wild is great as the Artful Dodger, and the actors playing Fagin and Bill Sykes are perfect too. The musical score is one of the best features of this film, so I'm glad this set comes with a separate CD for the songs. I can't get those songs out of my head now (and I mean that in a good way), e.g. "Food, glorious food!" "Boy for sale," "Consider Yourself," "Who will buy?" and "Reviewing the Situation." The only parts my family and I didn't like as well were when Nancy was singing (e.g. "As long as ... Loved it! Nobody can ever improve on this 1968 version of Oliver! Oliver! Gives Us "More!"
My wife and I recently took our family to the local community theatre production of Oliver! We have a 14 year old Daughter, 11 year old Son, and 3 year old daughter. Our 3 year old absolutely fell in love with the musical. She would sing "Who Will Buy This Wonderful Morning" and "Where Is Love?" I seemed to recall that there was a special DVD/CD set a couple of years ago...so I did a search of ebay and found it at a terrific price. We've watched the movie several times. Our three year old will stay glued to the story for the nearly 3 hour running time. AND she goes to sleep listening to the soundtrack. As for the movie itself - from Ron Moody's Fagin to Oliver Reed's menacing Bill Sykes - every character is well-defined and enjoyable to watch (even on ... Oliver!
Oliver is a musical play that I first experienced in London several years ago. Needless to say, when a Laser copy became available I purchased a copy and enjoyed this fantastic program in this media. However, my Laser program became a problem. Finally, I have a new copy of Oliver on a DVD disc. It plays with a clear view once more. I love the music and the whole British experience from days gone bye. Two for One --- Consider Yourself Lucky!
You get both the DVD and the original soundtrack CD in this set and it's worth every penny. Experience again this great movie (it's a Best Picture winner!) and classic soundtrack with lots of great tunes from a great show. If you have children, the movie gets a bit scary at the end, so monitor that, but otherwise they will enjoy everything about it. The soundtrack is wonderful to play in the car on a long trip.You get both the DVD and the original soundtrack CD in this set and it's worth every penny. Experience again this great movie (it's a Best Picture winner!) and classic soundtrack with lots of great tunes from a great show.
